Fresh Fruit Margaritas

May 25, 2014 By Garden Fresh Foodie

Margarittas Frescas: Fresh Juice MagarittasLet’s kick off this summer with a fresh drink!  It’s Margarita Time!  Go ahead, look at that container of sweetened beverage mix. Now-don’t ever buy it again! While we don’t place alcoholic beverage on the healthy list, we can certainly improve the ones we do consume. Making your own cocktail mix is easy peesy! You’ll impress those around you, and have a far superior drink, high in Vitamin C!  It’ll help you feel a little bit better when you reach for the 2nd one 🙂

*To create a non-alcoholic drink, use the fresh fruit juice and mix with tonic water or seltzer.

*Adapted from Vitamix recipe (cut sugar)

Serves 8 on the rocks, more if you blend it with ice:

Ingredients:

  • 2 oranges, peeled
  • 2 lemons, peeled
  • 2 limes, peeled
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 12 ounces of tequila (1 1/2 cups)
  • 4 ounces of triple sec (1/2 cup)
  • 1 tbsp agave nectar, if desired
  • if desired: blend with 6 cups of ice; will serve more (we like ours on the rocks)fresh fruit for margaritas

Instructions:

  • Blend and enjoy!fresh fruit margarita mixfresh juice margaritas

*We use a Vitamix; if you don’t have one, you will want to de-seed your fruit. In the Vitamix, seeds are pureed, and there’s no reason to do this step.

Nutritional Benefits:

*This is an alcoholic beverage. Most of the calories come from carbohydrates. To create a non-alcoholic drink, use the fresh fruit juice and mix with tonic water or seltzer.

  • 41% Vitamin C: antioxidant that boosts immunity and decreases inflammation
  • Reduced sugar (from typical drink mix)/No refined sugar
